Search "solar street light factory" and almost every result claims to be one — yet a large share are traders and OEM re-sellers that own no production line. They take your order, subcontract it, add a margin, and you get no control over quality and two parties blaming each other after sale. Here are six checks you can actually verify, and the order to run them in.

Check 1: Do they run their own pole production line?

The pole and the light source are the two biggest cost items, and a pole needs shearing, bending, rolling, welding and hot-dip galvanizing — a full line. Ask directly whether the pole is made in-house, then ask for a workshop video or a factory visit. Gaoyou in Yangzhou, Jiangsu is one of China's best-known street lighting manufacturing clusters; source factories concentrate there, while trading companies often register in Shenzhen or Yiwu under a "lighting technology" name.

Check 2: Can they handle non-standard, made-to-order work?

Custom orders are the real test. Change the taper, the wall thickness, add a flange, or ask for a custom lamp head — a real factory answers with drawings and renderings. A trader will say "let me check with the factory", and every message passes through another person, losing time and accuracy.

Check 3: Are the certificates and test reports complete?

Their business licence must include "manufacturing" in the scope (a sales-only licence is a warning sign). Ask for ISO 9001, luminaire test reports, CE, and galvanizing-layer thickness data — original scans, not screenshots. The name on the reports must match the contracting company. Reports borrowed from another factory are a one-strike rejection.

Check 4: Do they have verifiable project references?

Ask for projects, not compliments: location, scale (how many sets, how many kilometres), acceptance date, and ideally a client contact you can call. Municipal tenders audit factory qualifications heavily, so factories that win them are usually solid. Our 4.2 km, 120-set township road project is documented on the projects page.

Check 5: Will they quote item by item?

A source factory quotes pole wall thickness, lamp power and efficacy, actual panel wattage, battery type and capacity, controller model, galvanizing thickness — line by line. Traders and low-price tactics give one total. Two "6 m 60 W solar street lights" can differ from 600 to 1,800 RMB, and the difference hides exactly in those lines. Only an itemized quote survives comparison.

Check 6: Is after-sales written into the contract?

Common warranty terms: 3 years for the lamp source, 3–5 years for lithium batteries, 10+ years for the hot-dip galvanized pole. Verbal promises do not count — put the warranty scope (replacement or repair), response time and freight responsibility into the contract. For remote projects, confirm whether the factory supports on-site installation guidance.

What kind of factory is Yunyue Lighting?

Yunyue Lighting is based in the Gaoyou street-lighting cluster of Yangzhou, Jiangsu, and is a source manufacturer: poles are made in-house (cutting, rolling, welding, hot-dip galvanizing, powder coating) and luminaires are assembled in our own workshop. We build solar street lights, LED street lights, landscape lights, high mast and festival lighting, with full non-standard customization, and we design and install road lighting projects. See the solar street light page, visit the factory, or send drawings for a proposal and quote.
